Carpe Diem!

Updated: Dec 23, 2019

What you do today matters. From the moment you wake up to that first look in the mirror, what do you think of? Who is it you see? I believe your reflecting opportunity.

Today, you have the opportunity to lock eyes with someone who needed someone to be intentional, to embrace someone with your arms who has felt so close to exploding or falling apart. The words you say and to who you say them to, today, could change someone's world. So be intentional today. Intentionally using your every opportunity from your eyes to your hands, your voice to your listening ears and your strength to your ability to empathize.

Carpe Diem! These are many women who have made the most of their every day!

When my best friend died, it took me a long time to see my "opportunities" as worthy. I compared my existence to her's and thought many times, "It should have been me or someone else who didn't love so well." I needed to change my mentality and to stop drowning in this thought. It was not doing me any ounce of good. It was hurting my ability to connect with people and to see purpose in myself. Suicidal ideation was loud for me. I told no one that I wanted to follow Maria.

I had a dream. It seemed so real. My bedroom wall faded into a beautiful meadow of lavender. I saw Jesus laying there. I went to sit beside him and to lean into his chest. Finally, I felt a sense of belonging. My heart was beating so loud and was finally beginning to quiet. My tired eyes were feeling less sore and sleepy from crying so hard. My throat felt like honey had been poured down it since crying and screaming in agony of losing a person who meant so much to me and many others.

In this dream, Jesus and I were talking. He said one thing, "Not everyone is supposed to understand the world like you do. Just you and that's important; what will you do with it?"

I began an old habit and morning prayer that morning. I went into the shower and even if I felt like crap, I prayed gratitude, protection and strength over my body, from my feet to the ends of my hair. That today I would live with the intention to use every opportunity I had. Let my eyes bring someone peace and understanding, let my words bless people and speak life over them, let my shoulders carry the weight of a burden with someone, let my arms give someone a healing embrace.

What you do today matters. From the moment you wake up to that first look in the mirror, what do you think of? Who is it you see? I believe your reflecting opportunity.
